Outdoor & Waterfront Dining

July 24, 2025

There are plenty of places to eat well at the beach—but when the weather’s right, nothing beats a plate of seafood with a view of the water (or at least a salty breeze). Below is our personal short‑list of spots where you can enjoy fresh air, sunsets, people‑watching, and maybe a little live music while you dine. They’re grouped by the kind of view you’ll get so you can quickly find the mood you’re after.

Boardwalk & Oceanfront Views

Above the Dunes

Rehoboth Boardwalk
Sit one floor above the crowd and look straight out at the Atlantic through wall‑to‑wall windows—or grab a balcony stool and feel the sea spray. The menu runs from lobster mac & cheese to poke bowls, and there’s a solid craft‑cocktail list. Aim for an early dinner to score a windowside table without a wait.

Obie’s by the Sea

Rehoboth Boardwalk
Casual as it gets: walk up from the sand, order a basket of boardwalk fries or a crab‑cake sandwich, and settle into a picnic table facing the ocean. A great stop for a quick bite or sunset drinks after a day on the beach.

Bayside & Beyond

Rusty Rudder

Dewey Beach
A Dewey institution for sunset views over Rehoboth Bay. Expect live music on the deck, peel‑and‑eat shrimp, and frozen rum runners. Perfect for that laid‑back, flip‑flops‑welcome vibe.

Big Chill Beach Club

Delaware Seashore State Park — 12 min south of the condo (just past the Indian River Inlet Bridge)
Perched atop the dunes with 360° views of the Atlantic on one side and Indian River Bay on the other. Come for lobster rolls at lunch or sunset dinners under the signature sail shade. The bridge lights up beautifully at night, making the short drive totally worthwhile.

Paradise Grill

Long Neck — about 25 min.
More than a meal, this is a mini beach resort: multiple tiki bars, live music on two stages, sandy play areas for kids, and a full menu of seafood baskets and frozen drinks—all set on Indian River Bay. Come for the vibe; stay for the sunset over the water

Wheelhouse

Lewes Harbour
A nautical open‑air deck where boats glide past on the Lewes‑Rehoboth Canal. Grab a seat by the railing for unbeatable boat‑watching, fish tacos, and cold drinks. Live acoustic sets are common at sunset—worth the short wait for a front‑row table.

Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant

Lewes Harbour
Classic Irish‑American fare right on the canal. The sprawling deck offers prime views of passing boats and the bridge lift. Shepherd’s pie or crab dip with a Guinness is hard to beat after a beach day.

Patios & Courtyards

Summer House

Downtown Rehoboth
A local favorite for burgers (try the Beach House Burger) and surprisingly indulgent mushroom risotto. The front patio puts you close enough to the Avenue action without feeling crowded—great for people‑watching.

Shorebreak Lodge

Downtown Rehoboth
Cozy, garden‑style outdoor tables and an upscale seafood menu that changes with the seasons. Pair the scallops with a glass from their well‑curated wine list.

Zogg’s Raw Bar & Grill

Downtown Rehoboth
Island‑themed courtyard with string lights, tiki cocktails, and a raw‑bar tower that’s perfect for sharing. Live music pops up on weekends.

Purple Parrot Biergarten

Downtown Rehoboth
Key‑West‑inspired bar out back—complete with sand, Adirondack chairs, and its own outdoor bar. Grab a bratwurst or fish tacos and settle into the laid‑back vibe.

Tips for the Best Experience

  • Arrive early or late for boardwalk spots in July and August to avoid peak wait times.
  • Call ahead for patio policies if you’re bringing a dog—rules can change with the season.
  • Parking fills quickly near the boardwalk; consider the Park‑and‑Ride or Lewes park shuttle for Wheelhouse, Irish Eyes, and downtown Rehoboth.
  • Live‑music lovers will find the most consistent schedules at Rusty Rudder and Paradise Grill—check their Instagram pages for weekly line‑ups.

Planning to try any of these? Let us know your favorite—we’re always looking for an excuse to “research” another sunset dinner!
